Two Needle Socks with Knit Swedish Star Pattern

Size 8.5 - 11
Materials:
Knitting Needles size 2
4 oz - Sport Weight Yarn in color of your choice
1 oz - Sport Weight Yarn in a contrasting color of your choice.
Gauge: 8 sts = 1 inch
Note: Colors will be referred to as follows: Main color - MC; Contrasting color - CC.
Always be sure to twist yarns once when changing colors, to avoid making a hole.
With MC cast on 57 sts.
Knit 8 rows, then purl 1 row.
Following the chart, work as follows; Row 1: * k1 MC, 1 CC; repeat from * across the row, ending with 1 MC
Row 2: Purl with MC.
Row 3: K5 MC, 1 CC, 5 MC, 1 CC, 13 MC, 1 CC, 5 MC, 1 CC, 13 MC, 1 CC, 5 MC, 1 CC, 5 MC. Row 4: P5 MC, 2 CC, 3 MC, 2 CC, 13 MC, 2 CC, 3 MC, 2 CC, 13 MC, 2 CC, 3 MC, 2 CC, 5 MC. Continue working as given above, following the chart, until cuff has been completed, ending with a purl row of MC.
Knit 3 rows MC, then continuing with MC, K 1 row, increasing to 58 sts at even intervals across the row.
Work even in stockinette st (p 1 row, k 1 row,) until the piece measures 4” from the cuff, ending with a purl row.
Heel: Knit 15. Place the remaining 43 sts on a stitch holder.
Work back and forth in stockinette st on the 15 sts for 26 rows ending with a purl row.
Turn this half of the heel as follows:
Row 1: k2, k2tog, k1, turn, slip 1, p3, turn.
Row 3: k3, k2tog, k1, turn, slip 1, p4, turn.
Row 5: k4, k2tog, k1, turn, slip 1, p5, turn.
Row 7: k5, k2tog, k1, turn, slip 1, p6, turn.
Row 9: k6, k2tog, k1, turn, slip 1, p7, turn.
Row 11: k7, k2tog, k1 (9 sts).
Pick up and knit 13 sts on the side of the heel.
Place the 43 sts from the stitch holder to the left hand needle and knit across 28 instep sts. Place the 50 sts just worked on a stitch holder.
Work back and forth in stockinette st on the 15 remaining heel sts for 27 rows, ending with a knit row.
Turn 2nd half of the heel as follows:
Row 1: p2, p2tog, p1, turn, slip 1, k3, turn.
Row 3: p3, p2tog, p1, turn, slip 1, k4, turn.
Row 5: p4, p2tog, p1, turn, slip 1, k5, turn.
Continue working in the above manner until 9 sts remain, ending with p7, p2tog, p1.
Pick up and purl 13 sts on the side of the heel.
Place the sts from the stitch holder to the left hand needle and purl across the row (72 sts)
Instep Shaping: Row 1: k20, k2tog, k28, slip 1, k1, psso, k20.
Row 2 and all even rows Purl.
Row 3: k19, k2tog, k28, slip 1, k1, psso, k19.
Row 5: k18, k2tog, k28, slip 1, k1, psso, k18.
Continue decreasing as given above until 56 sts remain.
Work back and forth in stockinette st until the foot measures 2” less than desired length, measuring from the back of heel.
Decrease for toe as follows: Row 1: k11, k2tog, k2, slip 1, k1, psso, k22, k2tog, k2, slip 1, k1, psso, k11.
Row 2 and all even rows purl.
Row 3: k10, k2tog, k2, slip 1, k1, psso, k20, k2tog, k2, slip 1, k1, psso, k 10.
Row 5: k9, k2tog, k2, slip 1, k1, psso, k18, k2tog, k2, slip 1, k1, psso, k9.
Continue decreasing as given above until 20 sts remain. Weave the tip of the sock together. Sew back and sole seam. Work other sock to correspond.
