Footed Baby Pants Pattern

Size 6 months to 1 year

Materials:

5 oz - 4 ply Baby Yarn

Knitting Needles size 3

Gauge:

13 sts = 2 inches, 9 rows = 1 inch

Right Half:

Cast on 72 sts, work ribbing of k2, p2 for 4 rows.

Beading: * k2, yo, p2tog; repeat from * to end.

Continue ribbing until 1 ½” from beginning. Change to stockinette st; begin short rows for back.

First Short Row: k8, turn, p back.

3rd Row: k 16, turn, p back.

5th Row: k 24, turn, p back.

Continue working 8 sts more every 2nd row twice (40 sts). Turn, p back.

Next Row: k all 72 sts.

Work even until 9 ½” on the front (short) edge from beginning, end with a purl row.

Decrease 1 st each side of next row; repeat decreases every 2nd row 3 times; every 4th row 10 times (44 sts)

Work 3 rows even after last decrease row, end with a prul row.

First Row of Ribbing: (right side) p1, * k2, p2; repeat from *, ending with k2, p1.

2nd Row: k1, * p2, k2; repeat from *, ending with p2, k1.

Work ribbing for 3 ½”, end on wrong side.

Instep:

Next Row: (right side) k24, slip to a strand of yarn (or keep on back of needle), work ribbing on next 16 sts, keeping the last 4 sts on the back of the needle, work 11 more rows of rubbing on these 16 sts.

Decrease 1 st each side of each of the next 2 rows (12 sts). Break off.

Foot:

Working from right side, slip the 24 sts from strand of yarn to needle; join yarn and with same needle pick up and k 14 sts on side of instep, k the 12 sts of instep, pick up and k 14 sts on the other side of the instep, k last 4 sts (68 sts). Work garter st (k every row) for 13 rows, ending on wrong side.

First Decrease Row: k8, k2tog, twice in succession (back of foot), k30, k2tog twice, k22.

Knit 1 row even.

2nd Decrease Row: k7, k2tog twice, k28, k2tog twice, k21 (60 sts). Bind off.

Left Half:

Work ribbing as for the right half. K 1 row before starting short rows. P8, turn, continue short rows to correspond to the right half, purling instead of knitting.

Work to instep. K4, work ribbing on next 16 sts, slip last 24 sts to holder. Finish to correspond to the right half. Sew seam.

Cord:

With 2 strands of yarn, make a ch 36” long. Fasten off. Draw cord through beading.
