Toddler Girls Crochet Dress Pattern

Originally published as Blue and White Dress in Babies are Such Fun to Dress. I made a few changes to this pattern and added details and a matching bottoms pattern.
Materials Required:
Light Weight Yarn, sizes 2 (4.5 oz), size 4 (5 oz)
Crochet Hook Size G OR ANY SIZE HOOK WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW
3 Buttons
Gauge: 2 - 7 dc shells = 3 inches Directions are given for size 2. Changes for size 4 are given in parentheses.
Front:
ch 58 (70), s c in 2nd st from hook, *skip next ch, 2 d c in next st, 3 d c in next st, 2 d c in next st, skip next st, s c in next st, repeat from * 9 (11) times, turn.
2nd ROW: Ch 3 (counts as 1 d c), 3 d c in 1st s c, * skip next 3 d c, s c in next d c, skip next 3 d c, 7 d c in next s c (7 d c shell), repeat from * across the row ending with 4 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn.
3rd ROW: S c in 1st d c, * 7 d c shell in next s c, s c in center d c of next shell, repeat from * across the row ending last repeat with s c in top of turning ch 3.
4th and 5th ROWS: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows.
6th ROW: Ch 3, 2 d c in 1st s c, s c in center d c of next shell, * 6 d c shell in next s c, s c in center d c of next shell, repeat from * across the row ending with 3 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn. 7th ROW: S c in 1st d c, * 6 d c shell d c shell in next s c, s c in space between the 2 center d c of next shell, repeat from * across the row ending last repeat with s c in top of turning ch.
8th ROW: Ch 3, 2 d c in 1st s c, s c in space between the 2 center d c of next shell, * 6 d c shell in next s c, s c in space between the 2 center d c of next shell, repeat from * across the row ending with 3 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn.
Repeat 7th and 8th rows twice.
13th ROW: S c in 1st d c, * 5 d c shell in next s c, s c in space between the 2 center d c of next shell, repeat from * across the row ending with s c in top of turning ch, turn.
14th ROW: Ch 3, 2 d c in 1st s c, * s c in center d c of next shell, 5 d c shell in next s c, repeat from * across the row ending with 3 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn.
15th ROW: S c in 1st d c, 5 d c shell in next s c, * s c in center d c of next shell, 5 d c shell in next s c, repeat from * across the row ending with s c in top of turning ch, turn.
Repeat 14th and 15th rows 3 times.
22nd ROW: Ch 3, d c in 1st s c, s c in center d c of next shell, * 4 d c shell in next s c, s c in center d c of next shell, repeat from * across the row ending with 2 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn. 23rd ROW: Working in 4 d c shells repeat the 7th row.
24th ROW: Ch 3, d c in 1st s c, s c in space between the 2 center d c of next shell, * 4 d c shell in next s c, s c in space between the 2 center d c of next shell, repeat from * across the row ending with 2 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn.
Repeat the last 2 rows 2 (4) times, cut the yarn, turn.
Shape Armholes: sl st in each of the first 2 d c, sl st in s c, ch 3, d c in same space, s c in top of next shell, work in pattern to last s c, 2 d c in last s c (skipping last 2 d c), ch 1, turn. 8 (10) shells
NEXT ROW: sl st in first 2 d c, sl st in s c, ch 3, d c in same stitch, sc in center of next shell, work in pattern to last s c, 2 d c in last s c (skipping last 2 d c), ch 1, turn. 7 (9) shells. Continue in pattern, working 4 d c shells, for 7(9) more rows.
Shape Neck and Shoulder:
Ch 3, d c in 1st s c, work two 4 d c shells, s c in space between the 2 center d c of next shell, ch 1, turn.
NEXT ROW: Skip 1st s c, sl st in each of next 2 d c, s c in next space, work two 4 d c shells across row, s c in top of turning ch, turn.
NEXT ROW: Ch 3, d c in 1st s c, s c in center of next shell, 4 d c shell in next s c, s c in center of next shell, 2 d c in next s c, ch 1, turn.
NEXT ROW: S c in 1st d c, 4 d c shell in next s c, sl st in center of next shell, cut yarn.
Other Shoulder:
With the wrong side of the last long row facing, skip 1 (3) shells, attach yarn in the center of the next shell, s c in the same space, and work across in pattern, ch 1, turn.
NEXT ROW: Work 2 shells, s c in center of next shell, turn. NEXT ROW: Ch 3, d c in 1st s c, s c in center of next shell, shell in next s c, s c in center of next shell, 2 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn. NEXT ROW: Sl st to center of next shell, shell in next s c, s c in top of turning ch, cut yarn.
Back:
Work same as front until there are 2 rows of White—7 (9) shells.
Back Opening:
Ch 3, d c in 1st s c, work 3 (4) shells, s c in center of next shell, turn.
Work even in pattern until there are 11 (13) rows of White, ending at the neck edge.
NEXT ROW: Sl st across 1st 9 (13) sts, shell in next s c, sl st in center of next shell, cut yarn. Attach White at center of back in st already worked in.
Complete the other half to correspond, reversing shaping.
Sleeves:
With White ch 26 (30) loosely, s c in 2nd st from hook, * skip next st of ch, 4 d c in next st, skip next st, s c in next st, repeat from * across ch, turn.
2nd ROW: Ch 3, 2 d c in 1st s c, work 4 d c shells across row, ending with 3 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn.
3rd ROW: S c in 1st d c, work 4 d c shells across row, ending with s c in top of turning ch, turn.
4th ROW: Ch 3, 3 d c in 1st s c, work 4 d c shells across row, ending with 4 d c in last s c, turn. 5th ROW: Ch 3, d c in 1st d c, s c between next 2 d c, work 4 d c shells across row ending with s c in center of last d c group, 2 d c in top of turning ch, ch 1, turn.
Shape Cap:
6th ROW: Sl st across 1st 5 sts, s c in next space, work 4 d c shells across row ending with s c in center of last shell turn—5 (6) shells.
7th ROW: Ch 3, d c in 1st s c, s c in center of next shell, work 4 d c shells across row ending with 2 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn.
8th ROW: S c in 1st d c, work 4 d c shells across row ending with s c in top of turning ch, turn.
9th ROW: Ch 3, s c in center of next shell, work shells across row ending with d c in last s c, ch 1, turn.
10th ROW: Sl st in next s c, ch 3, d c in same space, s c in center of next shell, work 3 (4) shells, ending with 2 d c in last s c, ch 1, turn.
NEXT ROW: Sl st to center of next shell, s c in same space, work 2 (3) shells, then sl st to end of row, cut yarn.
Finishing:
Block each section. Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeves in position. Sew side and sleeve seams. With right side facing, beginning at the top of right back opening, work 1 round of s c around back opening and neck edge working 3 s c in each corner. Work 1 row of s c along the right back opening only making 3 buttonholes as follows: ch 2, skip 1 s c for each buttonhole. With matching color, right side facing, work 1 round of s c around lower edge and sleeve edges. Sew buttons in position.
