Knit Baby Wrap Pattern - size infant to 6 months

This is a knit baby wrap pattern. Button closure on top and open on the bottom.

Materials:

3 ply Baby yarn, 4 Balls (179 yd each) or the equivalent of 716 yds total

Knitting Needles Size 3

Crochet Hook Size I (for border finish, not required)

4 Buttons

Ribbon or icord

Measurements:

Length from lower edge to back of neck - 18.5 in.

Width of back yoke - 8 ins.

Width of each front yoke - 5.25 in.

Sleeves: Width at underarm - 7 in. Length from lower edge to underarm - 5 in.

Gauge:

15 sts = 2 in 10 Rows = 1 in (ribbing)

15 sts = 2 in 14 Rows = 1 in (yoke pattern)

Cast on 245 sts for lower edge.

Row 1: (right side) k10, * p5, k5, repeat from * to last repeat, k10.

Row 2: k5, * p5, k5, repeat from * to end.

Repeat these 2 rows for 13 in., end on right side row.

First dec. Row: k5, p5, * k2tog, k1, k2tog, p5, repeat from * 22 times, k5 (199 sts)

2nd dec. Row: k10, * p3tog, k5, repeat from * 22 times, k5 (153 sts).

Beading Row: k5, * p2tog, yo, repeat from * 70 times, k6,

Knit 1 row.

Next Row: k5, p 143, k5.

Knit 1 row.

Begin Yoke

Yoke Pattern:

Row 1: (wrong side) k5, p2, * pass yarn to back of work, slip next 3 sts as to p, pass yarn to front (carry loosely across the 3 slipped sts), p1, repeat from * to within 6 sts of end, p1, k5.

Row 2: Knit

Row 3: k5, p143, k5.

Row 4: k8, * insert right hand needle under loop in 3rd row below and into next st on left hand needle, k the loop and st tog, k3, repeat from * to border, K5.

Row 5: k5, p1, yarn to back, slip 2, yarn to front, p1, * yarn to back, slip 3, yarn to front, p1, repeat from * to within 8 sts of end, yarn to back, slip 2, yarn to front, p1, k5.

Row 6: (buttonhole row) k1, k2tog, yo (buttonhole), k to end.

Row 7: k5, p143, k5.

Row 8: k6, * insert needle under loop and k with next st, k3, repeat from * to within 6 sts of end, k6.

Repeat first 4 rows of pattern once.

Next Row: Working 5th pattern row, work 40 sts, slip on holder for left front, bind off 5 sts for underarm, work until 63 sts on needle, slip on holder for back, bind off 5 sts for underarm, work to end.

Right Front

Row 1 (6th pattern row): k40 sts, omitting buttonhole.

Row 2 (7th pattern row): p 35, k5.

Row 3: work as for 8th pattern row across, end k1.

Row 4: slip 1, p1, work from * of first pattern row.

Row 5: Knit

Row 6: p35, k5.

Row 7: Work 4th pattern row, end k3.

Row 8: Work from * of 5th pattern row.

Continue pattern, repeating buttonhole on next row, then every 16th row until yoke measures 4 in., end with 8th pattern row (about 2 rows above 4th buttonhole)

Neck Shaping

Next Row: Work 17 sts, bind off remaining 23 sts for front of neck.

Break yarn and join in last st on needle. Continue pattern for 11 more rows. Bind off 17 sts for shoulder.

Take up 40 sts of left front, work to correspond to right front, omitting button holes. Take up 63 sts of back, work pattern for 4 in., end with 4th pattern row. Bind off.

Sleeves

Cuff: Cast on 31 sts.

Row 1: (right side) p2, * k3, p3, repeat from *, end last repeat p2.

Row 2: k2, * p3, k3, repeat from *, end last repeat k2.

Repeat these 2 rows 4 times.

Inc. Row: inc. 1 st in first st, p1, * inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts, k1, inc. 1 st in next st, p1, in 1 st in next st, repeat from *, omitting last inc. on last repeat (51 sts)

Next Row: k3, * p5, k5, p5, repeat from *, end last repeat p3.

Repeat these 2 rows until 5 in., or desired length from beginning.

Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows for underarm (45 sts).

Work even until 3.24 in. above underarm, end on right side.

First dec Row: p5, * k2tog, k1, k2tog, p5, repeat from * to end (37 sts)

2nd dec. Row: k2tog, k1, k2tog, * p3tog, k2tog, k1, k2tog, repeat from * to end (19 sts). Bind off.

Finishing

Sew shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves with sleeve seam at center underarm holding in fullness at top. Join yarn on right front neck edge, work 15 sc on front neck edge, 5 sc on side, 16 sc on back 5 sc on side, 15 sc on front. Fasten off.

Join yarn on right front at lower edge, 1 sc in each ridge on right border, work 3 sc at corner, work sc on neck edge decreasing 2 sts at each corner, work 3 sc at corner, 1 sc in each ridge on left border. Fasten off.
