Crochet Purse Pattern - Vertical Lines Crochet Purse

Measurements: 12" circumference, 5 1/2 " tall or size you prefer.
Materials: Size G crochet hook 1.5 oz Worsted weight yarn Yarn needle
clasp or button for closure

Gauge: 14 sts + 16 rows = 4 inches
Abbreviations:
ch - chain
Sc-single crochet
scs-single crochetssc2tog-single crochet two together
Purse:
This is worked in the round.
Ch 2 (or magic ring)
Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (or inside ring if using magic ring), Do not join.
Round 2: 2 Sc in each single crochet around. (12 sc)
Round 3: Sc in first single crochet, 2 scs in next single crochet. *Sc in next sc, 2 scs in
next single crochet. Repeat from * around. (18 scs)
Round 4: Sc in first 2 single crochet, 2 scs in next single crochet. *Sc in next 2 single
crochetes, 2 scs in next single crochet. Repeat from * around. (24 scs)
Round 5: Sc in first 3 single crochetes, 2 scs in next single crochet. *Sc in next 3 single
crochetes, 2 scs in next single crochet. Repeat from * around. (30 scs)
Round 6: Sc in first 4 single crochetes, 2 scs in next single crochet. *Sc in next 4 single
crochetes, 2 scs in next single crochet. Repeat from * around. (36 scs)
Round 7: Sc in first 5 single crochetes, 2 scs in next single crochet. *Sc in next 5 single
crochetes, 2 scs in next single crochet. Repeat from * around. (42 scs)
Round 8-13: Sc around.
Round 14-18: Sc in back loop only around.
Round 19-21: Sc around
Decreasing for the flap: (Various flap instructions given below) Round 22: *sc 5, sc2tog, repeat from *around. (36 sts) Round 23: slip stitch around. Round 24: sc2tog, sc 15, sc2tog. (17 sts) Next Row: sc2tog, sc to last two stitches, sc2tog. Repeat last round until there are 3 sts. If you are using a clasp: sc3tog, fasten off, sew clasp to the end of the flap. OR if you are using a button: Loop for button: slip stitch in each sc, ch 4, slip stitch to 1st sc. Fasten off. Handle: This part is worked in rows. Row 1: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, and all ch's across. (4 scs) Row 2: Sc across. Repeat Row 2 - 16 times. Next Row: 2 sc in first sc, sc 2, 2 sc in next st, do not turn.
Changing to working in the round: Rnd 1: sc in 1st sc of last row to join into a circle, sc 6. Rnd 2: sc around. (6 sc) Repeat Rnd 2 for 10 rnds. Next Rnd: sc2tog, sc 2, sc2tog, ch 1, turn. Back to Rows: Row 1: sc. (4 scs) Repeat last row 16 times. Fasten off leaving a tail to sew this end of the handle to the purse. Sew onto purse, attaching one end of the handle to one side of the closure flap, and the other to the other side of the closure flap. Cut and hide yarn. Fold over the closure flap as you would to close the purse, sew the other end of the clasp (or a button) to the purse where the flap point ends. Cut and hide all yarn ends and your done!
